Margaret Herbert
It is very much with sadness that I have to let you know that Margaret passed away on Saturday 14 March 2026. Those of you who knew her, before she had to give up her Business Secretary post with our u3a due to her condition, will remember her great sense of fun and humour. She was greatly missed on the committee and our thoughts are with her family.

Heather Hall
It is with great sadness that I have to inform you all of the passing of Heather our Vice Chair and friend.

I post below the message that I received on Boxing Day from Gill Hawkins who knew Heather better than any of us. I was shocked and saddened by this sudden news as I expect all of you will be too.
"I have sad news to tell you... Heather died in the early hours of Christmas Day. She fell on the landing and hurt her hip and shoulder early on Saturday morning. Her grandson got her back into bed and called an ambulance. She refused to go for checks or x-rays, even though she was unable to get out of bed or even sit up. She couldn't eat or drink anything, and by Monday was very weak and was persuaded to let the paramedics take her to the JR. She was taken to resuscitation, and then transferred to ICU as they were concerned about sepsis. She drifted in and out of consciousness, although she seemed to be aware when her beloved Yorkies were allowed in briefly on Wednesday, as they feared the worst. All those years of chemo had weakened her, and she died about 3 o'clock on Christmas morning.
I miss her already, she was a very special person, never judging, and always there to listen or put the world to rights. She had a wicked sense of humour, was generous and loyal and caring.
I'm sorry to be the bearer of such bad news, Gill"
I have been in touch with Heather's family to pass them our condolences and by return received their consent to announce this sad event to you all. Some of you may already be aware.
With sadness, Garth, Chairman - December 2025
