| Status: | Active, open to new members |
| When: | Weekly on Thursdays 11:40 AM-12:30 PM |
| Cost: | As Lynne is an outside expert, there will be a charge for her services and also a venue hire charge to be shared between participants. It is estimated that this will be about £5 each per session, if 10 members, and less if the group is larger. |
This new group is open to complete beginners as well as those who already have some experience of Tai Chi Chih. It provides an opportunity to experience joy through movement. The group will be run by Lynne Stracey, an outside expert who will lead the sessions, as well as a Bicester u3a member who will fulfil the administrative functions.
Lynne says: "At the heart of Tai Chi Chih is the relationship between movement, chi and balance. Tai Chi Chih is a gentle moving meditation practice, anchored in mindfulness, which balances your intrinsic energy also known as Chi. It consists of 19 moves and a pose. Tai Chi Chih can be done standing or seated. Unlike Tai Chi, Tai Chi Chih is neither a martial art nor a self-defence practice. It can help alleviate depression and anxiety, increase energy, creativity and mental focus, increase happiness and peacefulness, improve circulation, balance and flexibility."

Starting date: Thursday 22nd October 2026
Number of places available: Minimum of 10 and maximum of 20.
No specific equipment or materials are required.
Over the first eight weeks of their practice together members will learn the 19 moves, beginning with three or four at a time, and there will be an opportunity to recap before moving onto the next set of moves. By the end of the eight weeks, they will be able to do a full practice - this usually takes 35-40 minutes.
